Belvidere & Delaware
The Belvidere & Delaware Rail Road was chartered in 1836 to build a line from Trenton, north to Belvidere where it would connect with a line proposed to run from Belvidere, west to the Susquehanna River. In August 1955, Hurricane Diane washed out the line north of Belvidere, leading to its abandonment. However, in 1957, the United New Jersey Railroad and Canal company and was later merged into Conrail in 1976 who operated the Bel Del as a branchline. In 1995, the newly formed Belvidere and Delaware Railroad Company took over the portion of the line running from Milford north to Phillipsburg and is currently running tourist trips between Phillipsburg and Carpentersville. Their steam locomotive, Susquehana #142 a Chinese built Mikado (2-8-0) that has been Americanized.
